We Care for Your Pets as if They Were Our Own
Lovingston Veterinary Hospital (LVH) is a full-service veterinary medical facility, located in central VA. We seek to provide the best possible medical, surgical, and dental care for our patients. Our history dates back to 1975 when Steuart Ligon, DVM, established our hospital, which became the hub of both large and small animal medicine for the corridors between Charlottesville to Madison Heights, and Scottsville to Afton. He continued to run this successful practice until his death in 2008.
Jessica Ligon DVM, the daughter of Steuart Ligon, launched her veterinary career in Lovingston shortly after graduating vet school in 2012. She has steadily grown her father's legacy into two practices serving the expanding population of rural central Virginia.
Jessica Ligon, Borne & Raised in Nelson County, Virginia, grew up on a commercial beef and sheep operation and spent many hours of her youth watching her father practice veterinary healthcare. She now is married and has two boys, James and Jacob. Raising them on the same farm and office she grew up in. "I have always loved animals and pets so working with them all day and learning how their bodies work fascinates me. Everyday, I feel like I am making a difference in the lives of not only my pet patients, but also their human families as well."
Dr. Morgan Eggleston is originally from Martinsville, VA. She attended Ferrum College where she obtained her B.S. in Health Sciences with minors in Chemistry and Agriculture. She is a recent graduate from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine where she studied within the Food Animals track, particularly interested in beef cattle.
Services
We offer a variety of services to cater to your pet's needs. Some of the services include:
- Wellness Exams: A comprehensive physical exam is very important, it allows us to know what is normal for your pet and address any concerns you have about them. It is these visits when we find deviations from what is normal and can catch diseases or chronic conditions early. This is usually when we take care of vaccinations and annual tests to ensure your pet is in good health.
- Fully-Stocked Pharmacy: We maintain an inventory of veterinary pharmaceutical products and medications, including flea, tick, and worm preventative products. Whether your animal needs short-term medication while recovering from an illness or injury, or medication for chronic medical conditions, you can rely on us.
- In-House Bloodwork, Urinalysis, and Cytology: At times the exam does not reveal the full picture. Often, we need to know what is going on with the organ function of your pet, and we need that information fast. We can perform blood chemistry analysis, urine composition analysis, and microscopic exams of tissues and substances from an animal to help us make a diagnosis. Many of these tests are done in our lab daily to expedite resolution of your pet's ailments, but we can send samples to a diagnostic laboratory for in-depth results.
- Nutritional Counseling: Our clinic is stocked with various Royal Canin and Purina diets for different life stages and management of medical conditions. Sometimes an animal's diet can make a real difference in their daily life, and we can help! Both companies offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so if your pet will not eat it, then bring it back.
- Parasite Prevention and Control: Examinations and parasite testing are important ways to protect your pet's health. We can provide you with a parasite control program and schedule for testing, discuss what signs of parasites you can look for at home, and review ways to control parasites in and around your home. If your pet has parasites, we can discuss treatment options and recommend ways to prevent seeing them come back in the future. These organisms are not just a nuisance, they can carry serious diseases that affect your pet's overall health and longevity.
- Surgery: There are many procedures which we perform at Lovingston Veterinary. Most of the time this is elective spay and neuters, but we also handle tumor removals, foreign body removals, amputations, and orthopedic surgeries such as fracture or joint repairs.
