With specialized teams for urgent care, surgery, and preventive medicine, we serve all cats and dogs regardless of owner income level. All profits directly fund shelter animals and community outreach programs expanding pet healthcare access across California.
Animal Adoption
As the nation's first cageless adoption center, we match cats and dogs with loving homes through personalized counseling and same-day adoptions. Our process includes behavioral assessments, medical clearance, and post-adoption support. We offer special programs for senior pets, bonded pairs, and military families, with animals receiving spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and preventative care before adoption.
Spay/Neuter Services
Affordable sterilization services use safe anesthesia and include post-operative pain management, recovery cones, and nail trims. Our high-volume clinic offers sliding scale fees supported by dedicated funds, with special services for umbilical hernias and undescended testicles. The program reduces pet overpopulation while providing surgical training for veterinary professionals through our mentorship initiatives.
24/7 Telehealth
Immediate access to licensed veterinarians for urgent pet care questions through text, phone, or video consultations. Our telehealth service provides triage guidance, medication refill approvals, and medical advice outside regular business hours, ensuring continuous care for SF SPCA clients while maintaining veterinarian-patient relationships through annual in-person exams.
Community Medicine
Low-cost preventive care through mobile clinics and fixed locations expands access in underserved areas. Our outreach programs include vaccination drives, high-volume spay/neuter services, and partnerships addressing barriers to veterinary care. The Community Veterinary Clinic in San Francisco's Excelsior district serves as a model for expanding affordable pet healthcare access statewide.
