Our History

Established in February 1977, Johnston Animal Hospital has been a cornerstone of veterinary care in Johnston, South Carolina, and the surrounding communities for over four decades. Initially founded by Dr. G.W. Rauton III as a mixed animal practice, the hospital has evolved over the years to predominantly serve small animals. The facility has undergone significant expansions, including the addition of a boarding kennel, and undergone numerous renovations to keep pace with the ever-advancing world of veterinary technology. Our commitment to providing the best possible care has always been at the forefront of our mission.

Dr. G.W. Rauton III, a pillar of the Johnston community, has dedicated his life to caring for the furry companions of the region. With his deep understanding of animal health and his unwavering commitment to providing exceptional service, he has built a reputation as a trusted and respected veterinarian. In 2011, his son, Dr. G.W. Rauton IV, joined the practice, bringing fresh perspectives and continuing the legacy of providing outstanding veterinary care. The addition of Dr. Leigh Anne Barefoot in 2017 further strengthened our team, adding expertise and compassion to our already dedicated staff.
