At Veterinarians Without Borders, we are dedicated to enhancing human health and improving animal wellbeing in underserved areas around the world. Our vision is to provide sustainable improvements in animal health and husbandry through education, veterinary services, enterprise development, and enhanced trade.

Our team is composed of experienced professionals who have served with and partnered with other organizations to promote animal wellbeing, human health, and economic development both domestically and internationally. We have collaborated with veterinary colleges across the United States to promote the dissemination of veterinary education and healthcare globally. As a privately and publicly supported organization, we are accountable to our donors and are committed to delivering high-quality healthcare with integrity.

Our work is guided by our shared conviction that the dissemination of knowledge is a key to animal production capacity serving the needs of human development. We are committed to excellence in the delivery of veterinary healthcare, understanding that enhanced knowledge and skills allow for a higher quality of life and economic development globally.

Founded in 2001, Veterinarians Without Borders is recognized by the U.S. Federal Government as a charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission statement reflects our commitment to advancing human health and livelihoods in underserved areas by sustainably improving animal health and husbandry.

Our Initiatives

We support animal agriculture and health as a critically important way to help people in developing countries flourish. Healthy livestock are not only sources of food and wealth but also provide a critical buffer during economic downturns and drought. We work hard to create sustainable solutions that will integrate seamlessly into the communities and cultures we serve-to remain viable long after we leave.

Liberia

Liberia is a country rebuilding after an unimaginable war, facing uncountable obstacles. After 20 years of such turmoil, and now enduring Ebola, the country's livestock sector is severely impacted. We aim to provide education and veterinary services to help strengthen this sector and support the local communities.

Uganda

In Uganda, livestock keepers need close ties with their animals to feed and care for them, but these close ties can make disease transmission easier between the animals and humans. We are working to educate and provide veterinary services to help prevent and manage diseases in livestock and protect human health.

Ethiopia

Ethiopia, one of the most storied lands in all of Africa, has seen its share of warfare, famine, and turmoil. The country is rebuilding, but there is a tough road ahead. Ethiopians have long depended on animal agriculture for wealth and stability. Our goal in Ethiopia is to train local farmers, pastoralists, and others involved in livestock rearing and marketing to spot the signs of disease early and respond swiftly before an isolated disease becomes an epidemic.
